Characteristics and application of fiber optic pipetting probe
DipTipTM is a small transmission/absorbance probe for microliter spectrophotometers and is the world's smallest fiber optic pipetting probe for UV and visible spectrophotometers.
The tip of the DipTip is only 1.5 mm in diameter, which is equivalent to the size of a 17G needle. It is not only 4-5 times smaller in diameter than other products on the market, but also has a price that is nearly 50% lower. The probe can be applied to all centrifuge tubes on the market and is very useful for measuring protein and DNA samples. This small pipetting probe can also be used for solution dilution. WPI designed this product along with WPI's fiber optic-based spectrophotometer or spectrometer module (TIDAS I) or CCD and light source for analysis of microliter samples.
An example of the use of DipTip is the use of TIDAS II to analyze calf serum (BSA) dissolved in phosphate buffer. The absorbance range and calibration curve are shown in the figure below. A 50-60 microliter sample was taken from a 0.1 ml centrifuge tube to measure its absorbance.

TIDAS I is WPI's high-end spectrometer module based on fiber sampling technology that uses a suitable source and sample cell to perform spectral detection at 195-730 nm at very low noise levels (0.8 milliabsorbance). TIDAS I outperforms conventional spectrophotometers and CCD-based spectrometers with high-precision fiber sampling.
